Open DICOM files on Windows without installing anything
Windows has no built-in DICOM viewer, and the viewer on a hospital CD often needs to be installed, which hospital and office computers do not allow. A browser viewer needs neither.
Steps
- Open viewer.plexusmd.org in Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
- Choose Open study and pick the folder with the DICOM files (or the CD drive, or a zip file). You can also drag the folder onto the page.
- The series appear on the left; click one to view it.
On a hospital computer
No administrator rights are needed, and the images are not uploaded, so nothing leaves the hospital network. The viewer also works on tall (portrait) monitors.
Files without an extension
DICOM files often have no .dcm extension or are named only with numbers. Open the folder that holds them: the viewer reads every file inside and skips what is not DICOM.
