A free DICOM viewer that runs in your browser
PlexusMD Viewer opens CT, MRI, PET, angiography and X-ray studies straight from a CD, a folder, a zip file or a NIfTI file. There is nothing to install and no account to make, and the images are not uploaded: your browser reads and shows them on your own computer.
It is made by a radiologist for physicians, researchers and patients who need to look at a scan quickly, share it with a colleague, or measure something in it.
Viewing
- Opens hospital CDs and DVDs, DICOMDIR folders, plain DICOM folders, zip archives and NIfTI (.nii, .nii.gz)
- Scroll, zoom, window and level, presets for lung, bone, brain and soft tissue
- Three planes at once (MPR), MIP and a 3D view; several series and studies side by side; a second monitor
- Length, angle, area and HU measurements; DICOM tags; saving a picture
Sharing
A study can be anonymised and sent as a link that works for two hours, by email or QR code. The receiver opens it in the browser or in the P Viewer app.
Segmentation and volumes
- Brush, threshold, region growing, interpolation between slices and other tools, as in desktop research software
- Automatic segmentation of 117 structures with TotalSegmentator at full resolution (1.5 mm), running in the browser: organs, vertebrae, muscles, heart and vessels, ribs and bones
- Liver volume with Couinaud segments, body composition at L3, and research models for brain, breast, prostate and other organs
- Volume, mean, SD and range of every segment; projects that collect one row per case as a CSV for Excel or SPSS; export as NIfTI, DICOM SEG or STL
On phones and tablets
The free P Viewer app opens studies and share links on iPhone and iPad and Android.
Questions
Is PlexusMD Viewer free?
Yes. Viewing, measuring, sharing and the segmentation tools that run in your browser are free, with no account. Only optional research models that run on our servers are paid from a prepaid balance.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The study is read and shown by your own browser. Nothing leaves the computer unless you create a share link or choose a model that runs on our server; then an anonymised copy is sent and deleted afterwards.
Which files can it open?
DICOM files from a CD or DVD (with or without DICOMDIR), folders of DICOM files, zip archives, and NIfTI (.nii, .nii.gz). CT, MRI, PET, angiography, mammography and X-ray studies.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on Windows, Mac and Linux. On iPhone, iPad and Android there is also the free P Viewer app.
Can it measure organ volumes?
Yes. You can paint segments by hand or let TotalSegmentator outline organs, bones, muscles and vessels automatically in your browser at full resolution. Each segment shows its volume and HU statistics, ready for Excel or SPSS.
Is it a medical device?
No. It is a viewer and research tool, not a certified diagnostic device. Every automatic result should be checked by the reader.
How do I cite it in a paper?
Cite the Zenodo record: Uluçay MF. PlexusMD Viewer. Zenodo. doi:10.5281/zenodo.23070130. The viewer's Cite button also writes the methods sentence for the tools you used.
