Open DICOM files on a Mac
Macs cannot open DICOM images out of the box, and the viewers on hospital discs are usually made for Windows. A browser viewer solves both.
Steps
- Copy the disc or folder to your Mac (Finder shows the disc in the sidebar), or keep the zip you were sent.
- Open viewer.plexusmd.org in Safari or Chrome.
- Drag the folder or zip onto the page, or choose Open study.
Images stay on your Mac; nothing is uploaded. On iPhone and iPad, the free PlexusMD Viewer app opens the same studies.
Good to know
Large studies (thousands of slices) open faster on a Mac with more memory. MPR (three planes) needs a recent version of Safari or Chrome.
